At last a day of warm sun
What a gorgeous day it was yesterday and although there is so much I need to do other than flower farming I managed to spend a whole day in the field sorting and planting some of the dahlias purchased this year plus seedlings that are hopefully big enough to survive the world of slugs (a couple of nights ago I went on a slug hunt and found loads on the dahlia tubers and am now not sure whether the attacked tubers have just been pinched by the slugs or have leaf gall). All the little plants in the ground fill me with hope at the beauty to come.
Due to the cold start and lots of plants and seedlings dying in the greenhouse I haven’t as much as I would have hoped at the moment and this is probably a blessing in disguise. Paul, my other half has decided to join me on the self-employed journey and we have much to do to bring in the beans to keep us and our 16 year old son (another distraction as his GCSE’s start tomorrow!). Even though I don’t have tons of flowers those that are flowering make up for it in their beauty, the cerise ranunculus simply glow in the vase and the poppies are amazing, the broom although not long to go, provides spikes of interest and the dainty geum are looking lovely.
Tomorrow I will be back to decorating the flat above the coffee shop in preparation for renting it out as an Airbnb, and hopefully we’ll have a gypsy caravan in the field soon and then there is planning to apply for to set up an aquaponics system. A bit of diversification and hopefully one of the projects will pay the bills.
